One Patient's Experience

Posted 18 Feb 2011

I did a huge amount of research, so eventually I came across the HRBR site. First of all what appealed to me was that it was in Ireland that was the first thing, so it was very local very near to where I lived and then I realised after doing more and more research that they were using a technology that was absolutely world class, it's a world class centre.

Back Again

Posted 08 Nov 2011

Hi there, Back again to say hello and give you an update. I went back into HRBR and got another 1,700 grafts. It was great to get back and see everyone again. It was pretty straight forward going in for the second time as I had done the procedure before the whole day was enjoyable. I will post a photo shortly when the new hair sprouts. Gary :) …

Christmas

Posted 22 Dec 2010

It's the countdown to Christmas, and I am looking forward to the holidays. My in- laws are travelling from Spain to stay with us this Christmas and this will be first time they have seen me with a full head of hair!! I am really looking forward to seeing their reaction. Yesterday, I again talked to my friend who had the hair translpant surgery recently at HRBR. It's now about four weeks since his surgery. He lost most of the …

Getting your MOJO back.

Posted 29 Nov 2010

I've just left my friend who has had his hair transplant procedure done at HRBR. I thought rather than trying to write about it myself, I'd ask him to give me his own account of the experience. So, here it is - in his own words: A sub text to my thoughts: Before Gary’s experience had inspired me to go for hair replacement, I had been fully bald for at least fifteen years. In this time I had come to believe that I had accepte…

A good friend of mine.

Posted 22 Nov 2010

A good friend of mine went into HRBR today to get the procedure done. He has been watching my results with interest and had seen the positive effects that the procedure had on me and so decided to go for it himself. He was happy that I came into the photography room with him. This is where Maurice & his team use lasers to design and sculpt the new hairline prior to the operation. It was pretty amazing to be on th…

The thing about hair....

Posted 26 Oct 2010

...is that you keep having to get it cut! However, I have a great barber Claude Jerimi, who is based in Mespil Barbers in Dublin. Claude does a great job at cutting my hair at the right length. This time he had trouble seeing my scar at the back of my head at all, which is pretty amazing considering that it is only six months after having the procedure. For me, it was important to let the barber know that I got the restoratio…

Patience is a virtue

Posted 19 Oct 2010

Hi there, I’ve not been doing a lot of blogging lately, where does the time go? Anyway, my new hair is still growing nicely – it’s important to point out at that I am using Finasteride and Rogaine on a daily basis. I take a quarter of Finasteride which helps keeps the original hair I have and Rogaine which helps support the growth of the new hair. I now have a routine of applying it once I get home in the evening. Maurice told …

A trip to my hair dresser with my new hair

Posted 04 Oct 2010

I’ve just been to the hair dresser, for my first appointment with my new hair! As you may or may not know, when you get the procedure it does leave a very slight scar at the back of your head. It’s important to explain this to the hair dresser so they don’t give you a blade 1 – it’s best to go with a blade 2 or 3.  Anyway, my hair is now cut pretty short, much shorter than the photo I just uploaded. I’m happy with it as …

Change is good

Posted 27 Sep 2010

I hope you like the new photos - they are not smiley ones I’m afraid as these are headshots for my acting work. I am happy with the changes, I have even managed to lose a few lbs since getting the transplant done. If you have had the procedure, you might find that you start to take more notice of your appearance. One change in my appearance has motivated me to make other changes. I have even heard of cases where there has …

Good things happening

Posted 16 Sep 2010

Good things are happening. I don’t think I have mentioned it before but, as well as having my own business, I also have a big interest in acting and film. I trained as an actor many years ago. On one particular occasion a good number of years ago now I was on a set and, in the middle of the shoot, everything stopped. I was confused as to what was happening. The next thing was I was taken by makeup into a room and the next thin…

More Progress

Posted 07 Sep 2010

Huge burst of growth, can’t believe it. Really happy with the last week. It’s like one minute I had very little and this week it took off. Really very happy with the progress right now. Getting some great feedback from my friends and family. The wait has been worth it, it really has. It feels good to finally have hair again. It’s hard to put into words, not only am I getting my hair back but I am also focusing on goals wh…

Growth

Posted 30 Aug 2010

Back from my holidays now and I am happy to say I can see some really good growth. Loads of new hair, great feeling, lots of nice compliments. Feels good, it’s funny once you see some growth, you just want to see more and more. I met someone for coffee recently who has not seen me in a year. They just kept commenting that I looked very different, I didn’t tell them that I got the new hair done as I found it quite interesting to…

Holidays

Posted 23 Aug 2010

Just got back from my holiday, seeing good growth in my hair. The sunshine has done it a lot of good. I put on factor 50, but I did take the morning sunshine without any sun block. Some nice comments from my mother in law, she was very complimentary and noticed a considerable difference from the beginning of my holiday to the final days when she came to visit us. Sunshine is very good for hair growth, but be careful, sunburn is…

Getting on with life

Posted 17 Aug 2010

The hair has now completely gone. I am about to go on a holiday which is great, apparently sunshine is good for growth. I am just going to chill out and enjoy the process. I have had little or no hair now for many years, I can wait another two months. I think this is when you really have to trust the process and almost forget about it completely. Regarding the holiday I will be getting the morning sunshine on my head, the…

Hair Falling Out

Posted 09 Aug 2010

Hair starting to fall out. I know this is part of the process but it’s still a bit disappointing to see it fall out. On the positive side, the procedure has been done, everything is going to plan and now I have to be patient...at this point I need to keep reminding myself that the hair WILL grow back and be a lot thicker and fuller. Also another positive is that the donor area on my head is absolutely perfect - no scarrin…

The Weeks After Surgery

Posted 03 Aug 2010

I went into Samson House today to get my stitches taken out. It took about 10 minutes, very quick and painless which was a relief. The new hair is settling in well. Before the procedure I was told that this new hair would fall out and grow back in about 3-6 months. I had also heard that in some cases the new hair does not fall out at all, it just keeps growing. I was convinced that I was one of the lucky few as my new hai…

The Days After Surgery

Posted 19 Jul 2010

I got back to work today, two days after surgery. Just felt I needed to get back as soon as possible. I felt totally fine heading in, glad to be getting back to a routine. The last thing I wanted was to be sitting around, I much prefer to get busy and let the new hair settle. One thing I can’t do now though is go to the gym, 4-6 weeks off! Going to the gym is not advisable with the stitching in the back of my head.  …

Surgery Day (Part 2)

Posted 14 Jun 2010

...then Joanne presented a mirror. I was amazed, I had hair for the first time in 15 years. I was thrilled yet exhausted, really tired. I thanked the team and walked home. When I got home the kids didn’t even notice. My wife was amazed, and happy I was happy. Maurice suggested that if I did not want any scarring that I should spray water on the new hair. My wife and I stayed up the whole night spraying the area. The following …

Surgery Day (Part 1)

Posted 08 Jun 2010

Surgery day is a long day. I arrived early in the morning (about 7.45 am) and was greeted by the team. I changed into scrubs and was given some relaxants. Maurice explained that his team were going to work with me to determine the hairline and how it should look. A team of 10 medical staff using laser technology got a perfect map of a hairline and how the surgery would proceed. I just let them do their job. It's a nice feeling …

The Pre-operative Assessment

Posted 27 May 2010

Went for my pre-op assessment. Spent quite a bit of time filling out questionnaires to find out if there are medical issues. Had my blood pressure taken, weight, all fine. The nurse also looked at my donor area and I was happy to hear that I have got great density in my donor area, which means that there is a lot of hair which can be transplanted on the day. I was not sure about how good my hair quality was. I was then wired u…

Reflections on Consultation

Posted 17 May 2010

I am just back from the consultation. It went really well. Maurice took a lot of photo's of my head and when he showed me the pictures. I couldn't believe how much hair I have lost. I was a bit nervous that I would not have good donor hair (hair at the back of my head), to do a successful job. When Maurice told me that I have a good, strong, healthy hair at the back, it was a relief. Maurice gave me an idea of how many grafts …

The Consultation

Posted 14 May 2010

I then went in to see Maurice for the consultation, I was excited and nervous at the same time. A lot of thoughts went through my head, what will he say? Have I got good donor hair? When I met with Maurice he explained the whole process in great detail. He gave me the facts and let me make up my own mind. He took pictures of my whole head which made me realise how much hair I had actually lost. The staff impressed me, everyone…

My hair loss story

Posted 07 May 2010

My name is Gary and I would like to share with you my experience of losing my hair. I had a great head of hair in my teens, I would compare it to Hugh Grant’s. In fact I used to think I had too much of it, it would annoy me. Then one day I looked in the mirror and I couldn’t believe it, my hair was starting to recede. This came as a big shock to me. Losing my hair, NO WAY. I immediately went out and started getting all the prod…
